    O texto retoma um problema recorrente na pesquisa historiográfica em ciências da linguagem: a questão das influências e do clima intelectual (Zeitgeist) no processo de produção de conhecimento em uma tradição linguística. O objetivo é reverenciar os 90 anos de Evanildo Bechara que, em vários momentos de sua longa trajetória, rendeu tributos àqueles que considerou seus maiores mentores. Escolhi, por achar oportuno à ocasião, revisitar o diálogo que se estabeleceu entre Said Ali e o homenageado, na tese que apresentou em 1954 para concorrer à cátedra de Língua Portuguesa no Colégio Pedro II: Evolução do pensamento concessivo em português, dedicada à “memória do mestre diletíssimo e amigo inesquecível M. Said Ali Ida (1861-1953)”, a quem Bechara reconheceu, explicitamente, dever sua formação filológica.

    The article revisits a recurring problem in the language sciences historiographic research:

    the question of the influences and of the intellectual climate (Zeitgeist) in the knowledge production process within a linguistic tradition. Its purpose is to celebrate the 90th anniversary of Evanildo Bechara who, at several moments of his long trajectory, paid tribute to those he considered his greatest mentors. As it was appropriate for the occasion, I chose to readdress the dialogue between Said Ali and the honoree, in the thesis he presented in 1954, to compete for the Chair of Portuguese Language at the Pedro II School: The evolution of the concessive thinking in Portuguese, dedicated to “the memory of the most beloved master and unforgettable friend M. Said Ali Ida (1861-1953)”, to whom Bechara explicitly acknowledged that he owed his philological training.
