    La noción de ciudadanía imbrica dos dimensiones, una objetiva, referida al estatus legal de los individuos en la sociedad, otra subjetiva, que alude a la identidad, la pertenencia y la participación en lo colectivo. Ambas dimensiones definen las condiciones bajo las que los individuos son y se sienten ciudadanos. Esta complejidad da lugar a una diversidad de caracterizaciones de la condición ciudadana, especialmente las relaciones que los individuos establecen y las formas de manifestarse en la comunidad. El estudio al que refiere este documento explora las condiciones en las que los jóvenes universitarios tabasqueños asumen su ciudadanía. Los resultados develan que las percepciones de los jóvenes sobre su contexto, caracterizadas por la inseguridad y el descrédito de las instituciones, están prefigurando espacios de violencia (Arteaga, 2003), en los que las distancias sociales y la frustración, causados por la incertidumbre, están definiendo sus formas de relacionarse e intervenir en la sociedad.

    The concept of citizenship weaves two dimensions, one of an objective nature, refers to the legal status of individuals in the society, another one of a subjective nature, which alludes to identity, the belonging and participation of fellows in a social collective. These dimensions define the conditions in which the individuals are and have the feeling of being citizens. This complexity places a diversity of characterizations of citizen’s condition mainly for the relationships that they establish and their ways of manifesting it, in a community. Under this premise, the study, which this document refers to, is exploring the conditions in which young university students from Tabasco, México assume their citizenship. The results unveil that the perceptions that they have of their context, characterized by the insecurity and the discredit of the institutions are prefiguring violence spaces (Arteaga, 2003), in which the social distances and the frustration caused by the uncertain are defining the ways of relating and intervening in society of young university students.
