    The psychoanalysist and doctor Wilhelm Reich – who is recognized for his early pioneering therapeutic and sexological research into orgasm, but was ultimately sentenced for his purported discovery of a new vital energy, “orgone” – is one of the most striking and disturbing figures in the history of research into sexuality. According to his famous doctrine, orgasm is the vital source of individuals and societies, carrying the promise of their profound transformation: it is through the liberation of the orgasmic power that sexual revolution will occur. The article adopts a “concrete” history approach that enables us to understand the experimental apparatuses and treatments of Reichian science.

    Le psychanalyste et médecin Wilhelm Reich, reconnu comme pionnier pour ses premiers travaux thérapeutiques et sexologiques sur l’orgasme, mais finalement condamné pour sa prétendue découverte d’une nouvelle énergie vitale, « l’orgone », est l’une des figures à la fois marquantes et dérangeantes de l’histoire des recherches sur la sexualité. Selon sa fameuse doctrine, l’orgasme constitue la source vitale des individus et des sociétés entraînant la promesse d’une transformation profonde de celles-ci : c’est par la libération de la puissance orgasmique qu’adviendra la révolution sexuelle. Cet article propose une approche par l’histoire « concrète » qui permet de comprendre les dispositifs d’expérimentation et de traitement de la science reichienne.
