La skholé aristotélica como condición de la excelencia humana

    La propuesta de tratar de la scholḗ entendida simplemente como ‘tiempo libre’ debe empezar con dos preguntas: ¿tiempo libre de qué tipo de actividades? y ¿tiempo libre para qué clase de actividades? La exposición de Aristóteles trata de responder a ambas preguntas. Los supuestos conceptuales implícitos que utiliza el autor a la hora de ofrecer respuestas son los siguientes: a) la ordenación teleológica de las actividades humanas; b) la excelencia necesaria para llevarlas a cabo y; c) la caracterización de las dos clases de eudaimonía que aparecen en el último libro de la Ética Nicomaquea (EN). La finalidad de este artículo es determinar la relación del concepto de scholē´ con otros conceptos de la filosofía práctica aristotélica y distinguir los diferentes contenidos del término scholḗ.

    The proposal to deal with the scholḗ understood simply as ‘free time’ must start with two questions: free time of which kind of activities? and free time for what kind of activities? Aristotle’s exposition tries to answer both questions. The implicit conceptual assumptions that the author uses when offering answers are the following: a) the teleological ordering of human activities; b) the excellence necessary to carry them out and; c) the characterization of the two kinds of eudaimonia that appear in the last book of the Nicomachean Ethics (EN). The purpose of this paper is to determine the relationship of the concept of scholē´ with other concepts of the Aristotelian practical philosophy and to distinguish the different contents of the word scholḗ.
