  • Cartwright reveals that digital photography has entered an age of extremes. But the real battle for the future of photography is happening in people's pockets. Although smartphone manufacturers have pushed camera technology massively in recent years, they are finding it increasingly difficult to cram a stack of lenses into a wafer-thin body. Most smartphone cameras give them the ability to take a panorama, essentially a super-wide-angle image. Another common phone feature is high dynamic range imaging, which allows them to photograph a very high-contrast scene and still see details of their face rather than just a silhouette.
