  • The article examines a proposal by scientists regarding the safe limits of human impacts on Earth. According to the author, the scale of humanity's impact on the planet is increasingly apparent such as the rate of species extinction, ocean acidification, and melting ice caps. Topics include an overview of research by scienctist Johan Rockström and colleagues in the September 23, 2009 issue of "Nature" regarding thresholds to reduce the environmental impact of humans, such as climate change.
