The article examines how satellites are helping track and predict the spread of infectious diseases by carriers such as birds and mosquitoes which move with heat and rainfall. An overview of two reports, including one by scientist Tim Ford and colleagues in a September 2009 issue of "Emerging Infectious Disease" regarding the environmental aspects of disease and one by scientist Xiangming Xiao using satellite data to map the spread of H5N1 avian influenza in Asia, is presented.
