The article examines the complexity of diseases and the traces they leave in the form of biomarkers. According to the author, most diseases, such as cancer and heart disease, are not curable and the harder the disease is to cure the longer it takes for it to develop. Disease biomarkers offer scientists molecular clues that may help detect and predict coming illness. An in-depth discussion regarding biomarkers, such as the protein prostrate-specific antigen (PSA), in medicine is presented.
