The article examines how plug-in hybrids are being used in delivery and cargo trucks which shifts energy demand away from petroleum sources and toward grid-based sources. Topics include the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) commercial plug-in hybrid program in which hundreds of medium-duty trucks will be assigned to 50 municipal and utility fleets. An overview of the U.S. start-up company Bright Automotive and its plug-in hybrid prototype IDEA is also discussed.
