  • The article examines the formation of new memories in patients in vegetative states. Doctors have used a variety of tests and observations to determine whether patients are in a minimal conscious state which requires subjective interpretation. Topics include an overview of research by scientist Tristan Bekinschtein and colleagues in the September 20, 2009 issue of "Nature Neuroscience" exploring possible tests of consciousness in vegetative patients.
