  • The article discusses what became of the family of stars that bore the sun. According to the author, astronomers once believed the sun was a solitary star, but evidence from meteorites and the arrangement of comets suggest that Earth's sun was born out of a cluster of stars. Topics include the use of the European Space Agency's (ESA) Global Astrometric Interferometer for Astrophysics (GAIA) to identify former cluster members and isotope measurements of iron (Fe) 60 in meteorites.
