  • The article examines the link between an individual's birthplace and their risk factor for developing schizophrenia. Topics include an overview of a July 1, 2009 online report in "Nature" regarding a genomics study of schizophrenics of European ancestry, a hypothesis by researchers that schizophrenia begins during the early stages of brain development, and several cohort studies in Denmark, the Netherlands, and Sweden, linking urban life as a risk factor in developing schizophrenia.
