    El retablo como mueble litúrgico constituye una de las obras de arte más importante dentro del templo cristiano. A través de este singular patrimonio artístico podemos conocer y comprender la importancia del discurso visual en la iglesia católica para su adoctrinamiento al fiel. El objeto de estudio de este trabajo pretende acercar al lector el complejo mundo que se esconde detrás de la retablística. El retablo mayor de la Parroquia de Nuestra Señora del Valle será el instrumento utilizado para recorrer diferentes aspectos de la creación y función de esta pieza artística. Metodológicamente se han empleado diferentes fuentes bibliográficas. La estructura planteada para analizar el retablo elegido seguirá como referencia el esquema del profesor Cristóbal Belda Navarro para hacer un breve análisis del retablo de la Parroquia de Nuestra Señora del Valle. El esquema cuenta con el análisis de los aspectos artísticos (estilo, artífices, cronología, tipología…), socioeconómicos(contratación, materiales…) y los valores y funciones simbólicas del retablo.

    The altarpiece as liturgical furniture is one of the most important works of art in Christian temples. We can know and understand the importance of visual discourse in the Catholic Church to indoctrinate the faithful through this unique artistic heritage. This study aims to bring the reader closer to the complex world behind the altarpieces. The main altarpiece of the Parish Nuestra Señora del Valle will be the tool used to explore different aspects of the creation and the function of this artistic piece. Methodologically speaking, different bibliographic references have been used. The structure suggested to analyse the chosen altarpiece will follow as a reference the outline of Professor Cristóbal Belda Navarro in order to make a brief analysis of the altarpiece of the Parish Nuestra Señora del Valle. The diagram includes the analysis of artistic aspects (style, architects, chronology, typology...), socioeconomic features (recruitment, materials...) and the symbolic values and functions of the altarpiece.
