La novela de Paloma Díaz-Mas ahonda en la problemática de la reconstrucción de la Historia en nuestros días y de los límites que tiene el historiador a la hora de interpretar las obras de arte del pasado. El Sueño de Venecia es un viaje a través de la historia de nuestro país siguiendo la pista de un cuadro y de la saga familiar de sus propietarios. Las múltiples y dispares –en ocasiones grotescas– exégesis de la pintura revelan la inevitable subordinación de toda perspectiva de análisis artístico a la ideología de su tiempo. Se hace necesario, por tanto, en el campo de las Humanidades, una confrontación, un dialogismo perpetuo y revisador de las interpretaciones artísticas.

Paloma Díaz-Mas’ novel delves into the difficulties in the reconstruction of History in our time and the limits that the historian faces when it comes to interpret works of art from the past. El Sueño de Venecia must be seen as a journey through the history of our country following the trail of a painting and its owners’ family saga. The multiple and dissimilar –even grotesque– exegesis of the painting reveal the unavoidable subordination of every analytic perspective to the ideology of its time. Therefore, the confrontation, the perpetual and revisionist dialogism becomes necessary in the interpretations of works of art within the Humanistic studies.
