Fundações privadas americanas e suas relações com o desenvolvimento científico

    We present a retrospective of international cooperation, highlighting the characteristics of American private foundations and its relations with scientific development, the main sources of information about the activities of these foundations and a critical analysis of the action of private agencies of international cooperation. To this end, we used different research sources including articles and books on the topic, and research in the annual reports of the foundations mentioned in this study. We conclude that the foundations seek to improve the effectiveness and efficiency seeking to achieve predefined goals, developing action strategies and monitoring the results. As a reward, are recognized worldwide for its prestige in the scientific community, however, it is worth noting that there are several criticisms of the actions of these foundations in the context of international cooperation.

    Apresenta-se um retrospecto da cooperação internacional, ressaltando as características das fundações privadas americanas e suas relações com o desenvolvimento científico, as principais fontes de informação sobre a atuação dessas fundações e uma análise crítica a ação das agências privadas de cooperação internacional. Para tanto, utilizou-se diferentes fontes de pesquisa incluindo artigos e livros sobre o tema, além de pesquisa nos relatórios anuais das fundações citadas nesse estudo. Conclui-se que as fundações procuram melhorar a eficácia e eficiência buscando alcançar objetivos pré-definidos, elaborando estratégias de atuação e monitorando os resultados alcançados. Como recompensa, são reconhecidas mundialmente pelo seu prestígio junto às comunidades científicas, no entanto, vale destacar que há várias críticas em relação às ações dessas fundações no contexto da cooperação internacional.
