    This article describes and discusses the dynamics of spatial occupation of the Xerente from the first contacts with the colonizers until the end of the 20th century from a reading from diverse sources. Its objective is to understand, through the narrative and discussion of the territorial trajectory of the Xerente people, the influences and the reflexes suffered by it in the different processes of occupation of the Tocantino region by non - Indians. We sought to see from which contexts the Xerente people reconfigured themselves socioculturally to maintain themselves as an ethnic group that carried a culture and destined a territory.

    Este artigo descreve e discute a dinâmica de ocupação espacial dos Xerente desde os primeiros contatos com os colonizadores até o final do século XX a partir de uma leitura de fontes diversas. Tem por objetivo compreender, por meio da narrativa e discussão da trajetória territorial do povo Xerente, as influências e os reflexos por ele sofridos nos diferentes processos de ocupação da região tocantínia pelos não indígenas. Procuramos ver a partir de quais contextos o povo Xerente foi se reconfigurando socioculturalmente para manter-se como grupo étnico portador de uma cultura e destinatário de um território.
