  La momificación es uno de los legados más importantes de la antigua civilización egipcia.

  Con ella preservaban el cuerpo para que este viviera eternamente. Durante el Periodo Predinástico yprimeras dinastías fue un proceso natural, pero poco después se comenzó a momificar a los muertosde forma intencionada, una práctica que, cada vez más perfeccionada, perdurará hasta los albores de la etapa cristiano-bizantina. El Museo Arqueológico Nacional tiene en sus fondos cuatro momias humanas egipcias, de historia y origen muy distinto, pero todas fruto del comercio de antigüedades del siglo XIX y comienzos del SS. La documentación extraída del Archivo del Museo muestra datos tan interesantes como la procendencia de las momias, la forma de adquisición, el viaje y transporte desde Egipto o las visicitudes que se encontraron hasta su destino final.

  Mummification is one of the most important legacies of the Ancient Egyptian civilization.

  Using this process the Egyptians believed that they were preserving the body so that it could live eternally. During the Predynastic Period and the first dynasties the mummification was a natural process, but shortly after this they started to mummify the dead intentionally, and the practice was perfected little by little and became a fixed custom, continuing right up until the dawn of the Christian-Byzantine period. The Museo Arqueológico Nacional has / contains in its collection four human Egyptian mummies with very different histories and origins, all of them the result of the trade in antiquities in the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. The documentation that we have in the Museum archives gives us information on such interesting aspects as the provenance of the mummies, the acquisition method, their transportation from Egypt or the vicissitudes that they went through before arriving at their final destination.
