This paper summarizes the main theoretical keys of the method proposed in the book Prehistoric visual language aimed at the understanding of prehistoric art from graphic semiotics. The synthesis of its application is presented in two practical cases. The first deals with the experience of semiosis on the organization of the space by the engravings and materials in the cave La Maja (Soria), from the beginning of the Bronze Age. The second, on the archaeological record of the Middle Paleolithic relative to engraved objects and the treatment of the body, from which the beginning of symbolic behavior is inferred. They are solved by semiotic categories without attribution of meaning and this act requires training because, in our capacity as speaking beings, we always try to make sense of things. For this we propose to reflect on the difference between semiosis and semiotics, between the subjetual interpretation and a theoretical model of categories of signs.
