  • Resumen
    • This paper analyses the stance taken by the elite US news weekly magazines Time and Newsweek towards the Spanish Communist Party (PCE) in the early years of the transition to democracy. The emergence of Eurocommunism in Italy and France and its possible “domino effect” on Spain was of growing concern to the US Administration in a 1970s Cold War context. The enormous rise in sales of these magazines during this period and their consultation by policy makers across the Atlantic make the media projection of the PCE, their electoral chances and the profile of their leadership relevant for understanding the dynamics of international news flow between Spain and the US at this key period in contemporary Spanish history.
