  • The article discusses the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) and events leading up to the U.S. government's passing of OSHA in 1971. Topics include the issuance of OSHA's first citation to Allied Chemical Corporation for overexposing its workers to mercury, and an increase in the concerns of workers and their allies regarding health hazards in addition to environmental hazards resulting from growth in the U.S. chemical industry following World War II.
