The article discusses the use of community health workers (CHWs) to stimulate investments in health care for vulnerable U.S. populations. Topics include the cost effectiveness and increased return on investment (ROI) associated with CHW interventions, and the tendency for CHWs to share language and cultural values with patients and thus better understand the communities which leads to increased involvement in decision-making and adherence to treatment.
