In this article the author asserts their opinion that Ebola virus disease preparations do not protect the U.S. against other infectious outbreaks. Particular focus is given to how this relates to the 2014-2016 West African Ebola virus disease (EVD) epidemic. Additional topics discussed include outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and the cost burden of infectious disease.
