  • An editorial is presented which addresses the author's views about the evolution of public health surveillance in America since the late 1990s, and it mentions the author's work on surveillance system development at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory and as a consultant to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The American federal government's HSPD-10 directive on bioterrorism is examined, along with chronic diseases and advances in biotechnology.
