    • The article reports that the country of France has had a notable reduction of traffic-based accidents since the death of Princess Diana in 1997. France and the United States had comparable traffic and pedestrian death statistics prior to 1997, but the response of French President Jacques Chirac to the event led France to make the reduction of traffic fatalities on of the tenants of his reelection in 2002, and France has had a significant reduction.
