An editorial is presented which addresses what the author refers to as the three stages of health encounters that have occurred over 8,000 human generations, and it mentions the impacts of these health encounters on public health. Human life expectancy and innovations in medicine and public health are examined, along with health issues during the Paleolithic era and the Industrial Revolution. Leisure and human genetic mismatch during the twentieth century are assessed.
