An editorial is presented which addresses the author's views about the impact of Hurricane Maria on the Puerto Rican archipelago and the colonial and postcolonial conditions of Puerto Rico, and it mentions several other articles which appear in the same issue of the journal and deal with topics such as public health workers and the post-hurricane community response in Puerto Rico. Public health problems and a historical financial crisis in Puerto Rico are assessed.
