An editorial is presented which addresses the authors' views about public health surveillance of first-year U.S. military personnel and vaccinations to prevent hepatitis A and B infections as of 2018. Preexposure prophylaxis and a three-dose vaccination regime are examined, along with the risks associated with hepatitis A virus (HAV) and hepatitis B virus (HBV) infections. Seroprotection and emergency responses to hurricanes are assessed.
