  • The article discusses health protection in the U.S., focusing upon how military concepts can be applied to the "civilian world." Particular focus is given to how military medicine has advanced trauma and emergency care in the U.S. Additional topics discussed include disease prevention during the American Civil War, the clear evidence that healthy populations are more productive and prosperous than those who are not, and how public health can be improved in the US. by holding leaders accountable.
