Blood pressure was taken over a 2‐h period in healthy men and women after drinking 4 oz of a commercial wine, neutral spirits, non‐alcoholic wine or water. Age and gender of subjects, but not body weight, were major factors in determining the rate of change. Men over 40 years old were the only group that had a significantly lowered systolic blood pressure rate per hour after the single wine drink as compared to a rather flat slope response after the neutral spirits drink even though both beverages contained 11% alcohol.
