Resumen de El cuerpo de María Magdalena: representaciones, pornografía y feminismo

La pornografía es uno de los temas que más debate ha suscitado en el feminismo en sus distintas etapas. En la creación pornográfca es explícita la mercantilización de los cuerpos de las mujeres, sujetos a los cánones de belleza de cada momento y cultura. Aunque generalmente no se suele asociar la pornografía a la religión, ambas esferas, en el cristianismo occidental, han estado íntimamente vinculadas desde hace siglos. En esta convergencia cristianismo-pornografía, las representaciones de mujeres bíblicas han jugado un papel esencial y, entre ellas, una de las figuras más destacadas ha sido María Magdalena. En el presente artículo se analiza el uso del cuerpo de María Magdalena como objeto pornográfco, trazando un breve recorrido diacrónico desde el siglo XVI hasta la cultura audiovisual del siglo XXI, centrando la atención en la película Sacred Flesh (Nigel Wingrove, 2000) en donde se da un giro a la utilización de esta figura.

Pornography is one of the focal debates within feminist thinking throughout its different stages. Pornographic creation is one of the main areas in which it is more evident the commercialization of women’s bodies. Although pornography is not generally associated with religion, in Western Christianity both spheres have been intimately linked for centuries. In this Christianity-pornography convergence, the representations of biblical women have played an essential role and, among them, one of the most outstanding figures has been Mary Magdalene. This paper presents a diachronic analysis of the uses of Magdalene’s body as a pornographic object from the XVIth century to nowadays, paying special attention to the film Sacred Flesh (Nigel Wingrove, 2000), where there is a turn in the use of this figure.
