    El presbítero Mariano Lucas Garrido fue secretario personal del poeta y magistrado Juan Meléndez Valdés. Sirvió fielmente al matrimonio Meléndez desde 1797 hasta 1822. Además fue un notable intelectual, traduciendo del francés al español libros de Moral, Medicina, Derecho, novelas filosóficas… Durante el Trienio Liberal fue colaborador íntimo de Manuel José Quintana.

    The presbyter Mariano Lucas Garrido was personal secretary of the poet and magistrate Juan Meléndez Valdés. He served faithfully to the marriage Meléndez from 1797 to 1822. He was also a notable intellectual, translating books of Moral, Medicine, Law, philosophical novels from French into Spanish... During the Triennium Liberal he was an intimate collaborator of Manuel José Quintana
