    Transcribimos, anotamos y analizamos brevemente el borrador de las “Noticias de la vida y escritos de don Juan Meléndez Valdés”, que don Martín Fernández de Navarrete redactó en marzo de 1820, que poco después refundió y publicó Manuel José Quintana bajo el título de “Noticia Histórica y Literaria de Meléndez”, colocada el frente de las “Poesías” (1820), que podemos calificar como “Obras Completas” de Meléndez…

    We present in this study the draft of the “News of Life and writings of Don Juan Meléndez Valdés”, which Don Martín Fernández de Navarrete wrote in March 1820, which shortly afterwards consolidated and published Manuel José Quintana under the title of “Historical and Literary News of Meléndez”, placed the front of the “Poesias” (1820), that we can call “Obras Completas” by Meléndez. We compare both versions, which will constitute a high percentage of the historical memory that we still have of the image and the work of the poet from Extremadura. Its compiling work and critical vision, sometimes divergent, has guided to a large extent the judgments in the Spanish literary historiography of the last two centuries. Likewise, through the analysis of the wills and other notarial writings of the marriage of the poet and his wife, Dona Maria de Coca, we trace the events that occurred during that edition during the Ominous Decade
