    • This article discusses the poaching of animals in Africa. The economics of the trade in ivory, demand for which declined in Western nations after a ban in its trade under the United Nations Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species, is considered. The use of DNA forensics to determine the sources of ivory, which is poached for the benefit of Asian consumers, is described.
