  • This opinion piece advocates action by the U.S. government to enact carbon dioxide emissions taxes to prevent global warming. The importance of U.S. participation in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change negotiations scheduled for December 7, 2009 in Copenhagen, Denmark is also noted. The authors propose that the U.S. government use the proceeds of an auction of the rights to emit carbon dioxide to compensate consumers for rising energy costs.
