The relationship between health and physical activity is essential for improving the quality of life. Proper and healthy balanced nutrition should be part of the daily routine of both physical and athletic practitioners, it is common for today's beginners in bodybuilding to acquire some kind of dietary supplement, often without the guidance of a nutrition professional. In view of the above, studies aiming at a more detailed understanding of the use of protein supplements by physical activity practitioners are made of great relevance, given the impacts that the indiscriminate use can cause to health. A descriptive, cross-sectional, quantitative-qualitative study of 100 individuals of both sexes in the city of Picos-PI. It was verified that 61% use food supplements (SAs), being the majority male (74.07%), where it was also possible to detect the existence of indiscriminate use of protein-based dietary supplements (75.4%). It can be concluded that the practitioners of physical activity evaluated made indiscriminate use of protein-based supplements, without the guidance of professionals trained for this prescription, signaling to a great danger the health that they are exposing themselves, considering the harms that they can cause.
