Objective: to analyze the functional capacity of active elderly participants of Traditional Dances Groups (CTG) and the Social Assistance Referral Center (CRAS). Materials and methods: quantitative, cross-sectional and comparative research. The data collection was performed in the spaces where the elderly people performed physical activity sessions, both in the municipality of Tapera-RS. From a series of tests, the functional capacity indices of the groups studied were verified, according to Rikli and Jones protocol. The elderly of the groups in question were evaluated and the data obtained were later compared in order to determine the functional capacity levels of both. The research in question was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the University of Passo Fundo, through opinion number 1,259,128. Results: comparing age groups from 60 to 70, from 71 to 81, genders and levels of functional capacity, the CTG group excelled with better performance indices. Conclusion: it was found that in the functional capacity tests, the CTG group presented better results when compared with the CRAS group, this was due to the age factor, since most of the members were 60 years old and also because of the activities performed complementary in the development of motor skills in the elderly.

ABSTRACT Functional apacity between elderly assets: a comparative studyObjective: to analyze the functional capacity of active elderly participants of Traditional Dances Groups (CTG) and the Social Assistance Referral Center (CRAS).
