    El objetivo del presente análisis es ofrecer una idea genérica y gráfica sobre la situación política, económica, demográfica y social de los países de la subregión del Sahel Occidental. Por ello, se analizan los principales factores que afectan a la seguridad global y al desarrollo de la región, así como a la posible influencia negativa, sobre todo, para el Magreb y Europa. A la vista de las principales amenazas y conflictos, se deduce la incapacidad de estos países para afrontar los grandes retos de seguridad y desarrollo por sí mismos, por lo que parece necesaria la participación de la comunidad internacional. Se analizan las diferentes iniciativas y ayuda oficial para el desarrollo que han prevalecido durante muchos años, sobre todo de la UE, y se argumenta la necesidad de nuevas estrategias y acciones internacionales.

    The main objective of this analysis is to give a general and graphic overview of the political, economic, demographic, and social situation of the countries in the Western Sahel sub-region. This paper highlights its main factors and analyzes how they may influence the global security situation of the region and how they may affect Maghreb and Western countries, mainly in Europe. In view of the main threats and conflicts, it is clear that these countries have been unable to manage and address these challenges; therefore, the support of the international community is required. In addition, this paper analyses the different initiatives and the official development aid that has prevailed for several years, especially by the European Union, which requires new international strategies and actions.
