The objective of this article is to analyze the strategies used by journalists in reporting on the life trajectories of two empirical subjects: federal deputies Jean Wyllys (PSOL) and Jair Bolsonaro (PP), who was initially affiliated with the Progressive Party (PP) and, on March 7th, 2018, joined the Social Liberal Party (PSL), envisaging his candidacy for the Presidency of the Republic. These life trajectories were (re)constructed in the written press, more specifically in the monthly Brazilian magazine Piauí’s column “Vultos da República”. Our purspose is to show how the magazine constructed the life narratives of these subjects known by the general public as they present opposing political and ideological positions. For such, we intend to investigate how these politicians projected themselves, how they created their self-images and what voices were evoked in their discourses for the construction of the interviewees’ image, adding to the orientation of the narrative’s composition. We concluded that the narratives reinforced the social imaginaries crystallized in the Brazilian population regarding both politicians: Jean Wyllys as a fighter who suffers homophobia; and Jair Bolsonaro as a rude man with very traditional opinions, but who still has many supporters and sympathizers.
