Resumen de Gender, work and social integration among Yucatec Mayas in California

Adriana Cruz Manjarrez

  • This article examines Yucatec migration to the United States since the late 1980s. It pays special attention to gender differences to analyze distinctive patterns of migration, work, and social integration in the United States. Our main findings indicate that men came to California for economic reasons while most women arrived via family reunification. We also argue that gender has had important implications in family dynamics, marriage, and the role of women in the family economy in the process of social and economic integration in the United States.
