    La Tierra de Trujillo es una Comarca que recibe el nombre de su capital, Trujillo. La historia de los pueblos de la Tierra de Trujillo está íntimamente ligada a la historia de la Ciudad trujillana. Actualmente el término “Comarca de Trujillo” se utiliza para referirse a la zona geográfica a nivel coloquial, y a la comarca agraria a nivel estadístico y en estudios, ya que la entidad legal en vigor en la actualidad es la de la Mancomunidad Comarca de Trujillo, la Mancomunidad Integral Sierra de Montánchez y la mancomunidad Zona Centro.

    La Mancomunidad R.S.U. Sierra de Montánchez se creó en el año 1994 con el fin de prestar principalmente el servicio de Recogida de Residuos Sólidos Urbanos y el Servicio de Maquinaria, entre otros.

    Desde la fecha en que se constituyó esta entidad hasta junio de 2004, sufrió varias modificaciones como las bajas de algunos municipios constituyentes.
