    El siglo XIII fue una centuria de exaltación mariana en muy variados aspectos. Entre las distintas manifestaciones de tipo literario que vinieron a resaltar este fenómeno, destacaremos aquí las Cantigas de Santa María, el grandioso cancionero mariano del rey Alfonso X el Sabio. En esta obra cumbre de nuestra literatura medieval, escrita en galaico-portugués, el rey incluyó cinco cantigas dedicadas a Santa María de Tudía, cuya imagen se veneraba en una humilde iglesia situada en lo más alto de Sierra Morena.

    Considerando lo anterior, en el presente trabajo trataremos de analizar las razones que pudo tener el rey de Castilla para preferir a este santuario mariano entre aquellos otros que pudieran existir por entonces en la actual Extremadura.

    The thirteenth century was a century of Marian exaltation in many different aspects. Among the different manifestations of literary type that came to highlight this phenomenon, we highlight here the Cantigas de Santa María, the great Marian songbook of King Alfonso X the Wise. In this summit of our medieval literature, written in Galician-Portuguese, the king included five cantigas dedicated to Santa Maria de Tudía, whose image was venerated in a humble church located in the highest part of Sierra Morena .

    Considering the above, in the present work we will try to analyze the reasons that could have the king of Castile to highlight to this Marian sanctuary between those others that at that time could exist in the current Extremadura.
