  • Resumen
    • The possibilities offered by new media are several how for example being able to communicate in real time, being continuously interconnected and being able to propose environments, sounds and images very similar to real ones. The main tools used are mobile telephony, laptops and the Internet, they make the connection possible today, at a relatively low cost, and in real time between people in all the inhabited areas of the world.

These new tools and technologies play a very important role in strengthening the ties between those who have had to leave their land (emigrants) and family members and / or friends left in their country of origin. In fact, some research carried out, show how the temporary return of the emigrant, has become the desire to return to those places of childhood to spend a holiday, surrounded by the affection of relatives and / or friends. Returning, the emigrant, undertakes a journey to rediscover the roots, no longer feels a citizen of the place of origin but a tourist in the place of origin.

In fact, from the literature on emigration it is evident the tendency of the emigrants to try to keep alive the relationship with their places of origin.

Staying here, even for a short period of time, preferably at least once a year, maintains stable relationships and friendship with relatives and locals, while having a house of property is the symbol that most of all represents one’s own attachment to the territory and to the community, and the temporariness of living in places different from those of origin.

In conclusion, bearing in mind that many studies show the existence of a close link between root tourism and residential tourism, this work will highlight the role played by new technologies in the development of residential tourism of the roots.
