    Este artículo examina de manera pormenorizada las relaciones existentes entre la semiótica y la sociología. Se definen los tipos de indagación que desde cada campo del saber se ofrecen para hablar de objetos comunes como lo son el sentido, la interacción, la variación entre otros tantos. Se postula la idea de que la verdadera línea de fractura no estaría entre las disciplinas –semiótica y sociología−, sino entre las diversas corrientes en el seno de estas disciplinas: corrientes interaccionistas de un lado y autonomistas del otro. De igual forma se plantea la tesis de que las prácticas semióticas pueden ser objeto, ellas mismas, de indagación sociológica en cuanto a su carácter institucional, esto es, su consolidación en dos zonas bien distintas: distintas por los agentes que allí actúan, por los instrumentos que se utilizan, por los objetos que se estudian, por las lenguas a través de las cuales la disciplina se construye y se muestra.

    This article examines in detail the relationships between semiotics and sociology. It defines the types of inquiry that from each field of knowledge are offered to talk about common objects such as sense, interaction, variation among others. It posits the idea that the true line of fracture would not be between the disciplines - semiotics and sociology - but between the various currents within these disciplines: interactional currents on the one hand and autonomists on the other. In the same way, the thesis is that semiotic practices may themselves be the subject of a sociological inquiry into their institutional character, that is, their consolidation into two distinct areas: different by the agents acting there, by the Instruments that are used, by the objects that are studied and by the languages through which the discipline is constructed and shown.
