  El artículo reflexiona sobre la experiencia del envejecimiento de adultos mayores institucionalizados. Para ello, indagaremos en las representaciones sociales y prácticas que tienen los residentes de la institución en torno al proceso de ingreso, adaptación y permanencia en el nuevo contexto. Nuestra investigación nos mostró que las representaciones sociales negativas sobre la vejez impactan en el nuevo ámbito y degradan el autoconcepto de los residentes.

  The article reflects about the experience of aging on institutionalized elderly people. In order to achieve that, we’ll inquire about the social representations and practices that the residents establish in the ingress, adaptation and permanence process at the new context. Our investigation showed us that negative social representations impact on the new ambit and degrade the self concept of the residents.
