Presentamos la traducción española de la primera biografía de la Iḥāṭa de Ibn al-Jaṭīb, dedicada al faquí granadino Abū Ŷa‛far Aḥmad al-Qulay‛ī (m. 498/1104-5), visir de los reyezuelos ziríes de Granada que merece pasar a la historia por ser el constructor de la Acequia Gorda (al-sāqiya al-kubrà), antes que por su papel de instigador del fin de dicha dinastía ante el poder almorávide. Conviene saber que Abū Ŷa‛far pertenecía a una ilustre familia de antigua raigambre árabe, entre cuyos deudos se cuenta su nieta Nazhūn al-Qulay‛iyya, la famosa poetisa māŷina (obscena) que se relacionó en Granada con otros poetas licenciosos de la época, como Ibn Quzmān, al-Kutandī y el Ciego de Almodóvar.

We offer the Spanish translation of the first biography in Ibn al-Khaṭīb’s Iḥāṭa, which is devoted to the Granada jurist Abū Dja‛far Aḥmad al-Qulay‛ī (d. 498/1104-5), a vizir at the service of the Zirid kinglets of Granada, who is better remembered as the builder of the al-sāqiya al-kubrà (Acequia Gorda, or main irrigation ditch) than as an instigator precipitating said dynasty’s collapse before the Almoravids. It is worth pointing out that Abū Dja‛far belonged to an illustrious family of ancient Arab lineage, among whose members is his granddaughter Nazhūn al-Qulay‛iyya, te famous mādjina (obscene) poetess, who moved in the circle of other licentious poets such as Ibn Quzmān, al-Kutandī an the Blind man of Almodovar.
