The article reports on references about the activities of the sun discovered in ancient texts under a study by Hisashi Hayakawa et al. of Kyoto University in Japan, published in the April 2016 issue of "Publications of the Astronomical Society of Japan." Topics covered include the researchers finding apparent references to sunspots, auroras and other solar events, and the frequent use of the terms "white rainbows" and "unusual rainbows" in handwritten Tang Dynasty documents from China.
