    Kierkegaard otorgó al humor el nivel de categoría existencial, necesaria para alcanzar la plenitud de la vida religiosa. Planteó que el humor se produce por situaciones de incongruencia que provocan sufrimiento, por la paradoja entre las aspiraciones humanas y las inevitables limitaciones de la existencia. La comprensión del auténtico sentido del dolor puede llevar al individuo a alcanzar la perfección del hombre que se confía enteramente en Dios y que, ante el reconocimiento de su propia finitud, no se toma tan en serio a sí mismo.

    Kierkegaard granted humor the level of an existential category, as he thought it was necessary for the fully realized religious life. He suggested that humor arises in situations of incongruity in which suffering is caused by the paradox of human hopes and aspirations and the inevitable constraints of existence. Understanding the true meaning of pain can help an individual reach human perfection by placing all of his confi dence in God, realizing his own fi niteness, and learning not to take himself so seriously.
