  • The article discusses the lingering effects that anesthesia can have on the brain years after an operation. Topics include the experience of spinal surgery patient Susan Baker, who suffered from symptoms related to a condition called postoperative delirium, which causes confusion and memory loss, a brief overview of the three main types of anesthesia, factors that increase a patient's chance of experiencing postoperative delirium, such as age, and strategies to minimize risks.
