The article examines the authors' research that found a discrepancy in measurements of the proton radius, and implications of the findings as of January 2014. Background information on quantum electrodynamics (QED) is presented, as well as methods of the experiments, including the Lamb shift, scattershot proton measurement, and the strange hydrogen technique. It is suggested that the results may require a new theory of particle physics.
