  • The article looks at a technique for identifying viruses, known as virome capture sequencing platform for vertebrate viruses (VirCapSeqVERT), developed by researchers at Columbia University. According to epidemiologist W. Ian Lipkin, the technique can reduce costs for medical testing and takes less time than the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method commonly used to identify viruses. Details on the researchers' use of genetic probes to develop the technique are presented.
